Parents – how can you help the club, your child and their team?
As we are a community club, we would love your help to give all of our young players a great experience playing this wonderful sport. It also adds to the experience of our kids to see adults involved and helping out. Once teams are formed, we will be calling for parents to assist in the following ways….
Team Coaches. Head Coaches and Assistant Coaches are appointed once the teams have been formed. In most circumstances, coaches are parent volunteers usually of a player in the team. We do attempt to have a head coach, who is not the parent of a player in the team, for any Select/First teams but this is not always possible.
The PHFC Technical Development team plan coaching sessions and provide resources to ensure consistency of sessions and support for all of our volunteer coaches. Extra parent helpers are invited to assist coaches in the implementation of sessions where required.
Formal coaching courses and education sessions are made available to coaches by PHFC. All parents are invited to volunteer their interest to coach, support or manage a team, so that teams can be equipped with great support for the season ahead. Many hands make light work!
All allocated team coaches will be required to obtain a volunteer ‘Working with Children’ blue card.
Team Manager. Managers are appointed once the teams have been formed. The manager will be a parent of a player in the team. The assistant coach can also dual-hat as the manager but we do not recommend the head coach take on this role.
The manager plays a crucial role in ensuring the team remains informed and organised throughout the season. Two critical skills managers require are 1. great organisational and 2. communication skills.
The manager role for U8-U12 teams is quite straight forward with the main responsibility being team communication with the parent group through a social media platform of choice. As U13s and above are competitive leagues, the manager will also have additional responsibilities with team management in Squadi and pre and post-game day responsibilities with electronic team sheets and game results.
All allocated mangers will be required to obtain a volunteer ‘Working with Children’ blue card.
